A (not) perfect office

A (not) perfect office

Offices are not all the same, some are better than others. But, there is no perfect office, there is perfect office for you. If you feel bad in your office right now and want to make changes, it's very easy to fix this issue, just follow these 5 rules for the perfect office.

# 1 Keep the environment tidy!

Don't get me wrong, everything doesn't need to be laid out on the table and every book or folder carefully stored on the bookshelf. I mean, even though it looks like a tornado has passed, the only thing that matters is that you know exactly where to find what you're looking for.

Do you need a pencil? It is enough to know that exactly in the right corner of your desk under the pile of papers you can find it.

Not finding things is a huge source of stress because it often interrupts the conversation you're having and forces your brain to jump from one thought to another just to find a pencil to write with.

#2 The office should reflect your personality!

If you hate the color green, you can't have green drawers. Likewise, if you hate a certain type of design or furniture, you can't go ten hours a day without suffering the consequences.

In a place where you do not feel your own, it is impossible to relax. Considering you're at work, not exactly a place to relax, at least the environment shouldn't hurt your sensibilities.

#3 It should be comfortable!

Okay, it's okay to have a messy environment sometimes because you think you're more organized that way. But is the seat in front of you at least free? If the situation allows, can you stretch your legs or do you have to get up and move things to the table next to you?

This is obviously an exaggeration, but comfort is important. Start with the chair in which you spend all those working hours.

#4 It must be quiet!

Some people can't stand the noise, while others live with it very well. However, sometimes both need peace and the office they work in should be able to provide it.

#5 Must provide privacy and security!

Of course, we're not just referring to being alone in a study. Even in the case of a shared office, there are some things you may want to do alone. For example phone calls or eating.

Again, the room where you have your desk doesn't need to offer these privileges, but your work environment should include places where you can do things like eat or make phone calls without disturbing others.

Steve Jobs points out that your work will fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know it when you find it.
